Sometimes the original is still the best! Bill Britten was a pioneer on lighthouse web sites; having his site since 1993. His geographically diverse lighthouse page has something for every enthusiast! His site is packed with great shots of lighthouses. He was one of the inspirations for this site.

National Park Service's Lighthouse Heritage
A great web site maintained by the National Park Service that includes an inventory list of all the lightstations in America with detailed historic and specific information on each station; a limited inventory list of existing lens with photos; a list of all publicly accessible lighthouses in America; and list of all the lighthouses that are within our National Park System. Sections on Preservation, National Historic Landmarks, News, FAQ's, etc. as well.

Jeremy D'Entremont's site is the definitive web site for New England Lighthouses. It is an extremely detailed and comprehensive listing of every lighthouse in New England offering thorough information and history with vintage and current photo's on close to 200 New England lights. Jeremy is very active and his expertise is well known in the lighthouse community. He is a contributor to Lighthouse Digest, the President of the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, the Vice President of the Dutch Island Lighthouse Society, a board member of the American Lighthouse Foundation and maintains the lighthouse database for Lighthouse Depot.

Seeing the Light - The Lighthouses of the Western Great Lakes
Terry and Sue Pepper have put together an extremely professional and information packed web site that features the lighthouses of the western Great Lakes. On their web site they offer detailed, scholarly histories on countless, individual Great Lake Lights accompanied by historic pictures and cited bibliographies. Their site also features special web pages on the history of Fresnel Lens and other beacon sources utilized in lighthouses; the US Treasury Department's 1835 Lightkeeper's Instructions; and a Lighthouse Glossary for terms. Terry and Sue's self stated goal is to make their site the "most resource-rich Western Great Lakes lighthouse site" on the Internet. However, you will easily find it already is.

The Chesapeake Bay Lighthouse Project
Matt Jenkins and his wife through their travels have put together a very comprehensive and beautiful web site highlighting all the 34 lighthouses of the Chesapeake Bay complete with histories and photographs. In addition to their site featuring all lighthouses of the Chesapeake Bay, they have expanded it to include the lighthouses of the DelMarVa pennisula. Their site has been featured and recognized in a number of magazines including SpinSheet, Chesapeake Bay Magazine, and Ira Black's NorEaster. A great site to visit for anyone interested in the Chesapeake Bay!
